Facundo Saravia

Facundo Saravia was born in Purmamarca, Jujuy, Argentina in 1901. He grew up surrounded by the musical traditions of the Andean highlands, where the sounds of the quena flute and charango guitar were part of daily life.

By the 1930s, Saravia had become known for performing at local festivals and gatherings. His repertoire included various regional styles, from the zamba to the chacarera. In 1941, he composed "El Humahuaqueño," a song that would become closely associated with his name and with Andean folk music more broadly.

Saravia performed with a group called Los Hermanos Saravia that included several family members. He recorded albums like "Canciones Andinas" in 1940 and "El Humahuaqueño" in 1941. Other songs in his catalog include "Tonada Del Viejo Amor," "A Mi Padre," and "Chacarera Del Rancho."
