Faerghail formed in 2011 with vocalist and guitarist Cathal Ward, bassist Dave Williams, and drummer Cormac Daly. The members had previously played together in the experimental metal band Fall of Kaan. Their debut album 'Insanity Abounds' came out in 2016, followed by 'Carrion' in 2018 and 'The Obsidian Doctrine' in 2021.
Their song 'As I Wither Away' became one of their better-known tracks, along with others like 'Behind A Sinful Shade' and 'Frostmaiden's Veil'. Ward's vocals and lyrics often dealt with themes of mortality and despair, which sometimes drew criticism from listeners who found the content unsettling.
They released an EP called 'Dawn of the Unhallowed' in 2019. The band's music operates within death metal territory, though their approach leans toward melodic and atmospheric elements rather than pure aggression.
