Fairchild formed in New York City in the early 2000s with Ethan James on vocals, Charlotte Dubois on guitar, Lucas Reed on bass, and Samuel Carson on drums. They built a following with live shows that had some energy to them, and songs that leaned toward emotional territory.
Their debut album 'Echoes of the Past' came out in 2005 and included the song 'Breathless.' That track got some attention for its melody and James's vocal delivery, which felt pretty direct. It became the thing people knew them for.
In 2007 there were some plagiarism claims about 'Breathless' that got talked about, but they didn't stick. A few years later, James spoke openly about dealing with addiction, which led to the band taking a break for a while. They came back and put out more albums, including 'The Weight of the World' in 2008.
