Faire Du Surf

Faire Du Surf started in Los Angeles in the early 2000s, with Ethan P. Flynn on vocals and guitar and Jason Johnson handling multiple instruments. Their first album, The Cinematic Orchestra, came out in 2005 and mixed post-punk, ambient electronica, and psychedelic rock into something that felt both experimental and grounded.

Two years later, the band released Going West, which included the song of the same name. That track, along with others like In The Woods and Lit Up, gave their sound a clearer shape without losing the loose, searching quality that defined their earlier work. They kept putting out records every few years, including Sonic Cathedral in 2010 and The Light Within Darkness in 2013.

By 2016, with The Edge of the World, Faire Du Surf had settled into a pattern of steady, low-key releases. Their music never really broke into the mainstream, but it found listeners who appreciated its particular blend of electronic textures and rock instrumentation. Songs like Turn To Dust and It's Not Drop. Or Drop?...It's Drop! show how they could be both playful and serious within the same few minutes.
