Fairground Saints formed in Portland, Oregon around 2010 when Chris Banta and Mason Van Valkenburgh started playing together. Their early sound pulled from folk and Americana, with Van Valkenburgh adding mandolin to the mix. They put out a debut album called 'The Alchemy of Loss' in 2012.
