Faker

Faker was an indie rock band from London fronted by Matthew Murphy. They released four albums between 2001 and 2010, starting with 'Fake Empire' and ending with 'The Ruins'. Their songs like 'I Know/She Knows' and 'Are You Magnetic?' had a straightforward melodic quality that connected with listeners.

The band broke up in 2008 but reunited in 2015 with a different lineup to release 'The Ruins'. Murphy's direct approach sometimes created friction with labels and press, and the group dealt with substance issues that contributed to their initial split.

Their music explored relationships and personal struggles without much decoration. Tracks such as 'Bodies' and 'Dumb Mistakes' carried that plain emotional weight. While they drew from various rock influences, Faker's sound stayed grounded in Murphy's vocals and the band's uncomplicated arrangements.
