Fall

The Fall formed in Prestwich, England in 1976, with Mark E. Smith on vocals, Una Baines on guitar, Tony Friel on bass, and Martin Bramah on drums. Their early singles and the 1979 album 'Live at the Witch Trials' established a raw, abrasive sound that didn't fit neatly into any category. Smith's distinctive vocal delivery and the band's shifting, often unstable lineup became defining characteristics from the start.

In 1980, 'Grotesque (After the Gramme)' marked a shift toward more complex arrangements and pointed lyrics, bringing them wider attention. The 1990 song 'Immortality,' from the album 'Dragnet,' became one of their most recognized tracks, known for its elliptical lyrics and Smith's evocative delivery. Throughout the 1990s, albums like 'Code: Selfish' and 'The Infotainment Scan' incorporated more electronic elements and extended instrumental passages.

Despite constant personnel changes, the Fall continued recording and touring for decades, with Smith as the only constant member until his death in 2018. Their later work included albums like 'Re-Mit' in 2008 and 'New Facts Emerge' in 2017. The band's catalog spans over 40 studio albums, with songs like 'Hit The North' and '15 Ways' remaining staples of their live sets.
