Falz

Falz is the stage name of Folarin Falana, a Nigerian rapper and singer born in Lagos in 1990. He started putting out music around 2011 with his debut album 'Shakara,' which established his style of sharp, observant lyrics set to Afrobeat rhythms. Over the next decade, he followed it with albums like 'Stories That Touch,' '27,' and 'Moral Instruction.'

His music often addresses social and political issues in Nigeria, from corruption to police violence. The 2018 track 'Soldier,' a collaboration with Simi, became particularly well-known as a response to police brutality. Another song, 'This Is Nigeria,' directly comments on the country's social climate.

Falz comes from a background where his father is a lawyer and human rights activist, which might inform some of the perspectives in his work. While his approach has drawn criticism at times for being too pointed, he's maintained a consistent output that blends commentary with accessible production.
