Fama Coral

Fama Coral formed in 1998 in São Miguel do Gostoso, a small town in Brazil's sertão region. The band's name translates to 'Fame Chorus,' which hints at their focus on vocal arrangements and collective expression. Their early work drew from the traditional folk music of northeastern Brazil, though they weren't strictly revivalists.

Their debut album that same year included 'Esperança,' a song that became widely known in Brazil. The track's title means 'Hope,' and it seemed to connect with listeners looking for something uplifting. In 2005, there were some plagiarism claims about the song, but the band continued working through it.

By 2001, they'd released another album called Flor da Pele, which showed them moving toward more personal material. The group included musicians like Zélia Duncan on vocals, Paulo César Pinheiro on guitar, Luiz Melodia on percussion, José Miguel Wisnik on violin, and Dominguinhos on accordion. Their sound blended those folk roots with classical touches and the rhythmic drive of the region.
