Fang

Fang formed in Los Angeles in the late 1970s with Sammi Curr on vocals, Dean Chamberlain on guitar, Vinny Kaczynski on bass, and Chris Franke on drums. Their name came from a vampire film, which fit the darker tone they'd develop. They put out their first album, 'Sticks and Stones,' in 1981.

In 1983 they released 'An Invitation,' the album that most people remember them for. The title track became a kind of standard for them, but the record also had songs like 'Berkeley Heathen Scum' and 'Everybody Makes Me Barf' that showed their rougher, more confrontational side. Their look, pale makeup, black clothes, got attention and sometimes pushback, but they kept at it.

They kept making records through the '80s, like 'Land Shark' and 'Snake Dance.' Their sound had some post-punk and goth in it, but it was always built around Curr's vocal delivery and Chamberlain's guitar work. They never broke through commercially, but they built a following that stuck with them.
