Fanta4 formed in Stuttgart in 1988 with Michi Beck, Smudo, Mighty, and Max. Their 1992 debut single 'Die da?!' found immediate success, putting them at the front of German hip-hop's early wave. They followed with albums like 'Der Rest ist Schweigen' and 'Vier', which both reached the top of the German charts.

Songs like 'Hammer' and 'Arschloch' show their mix of sharp lyrics and melodic production. They've worked with other German artists including Xavier Naidoo and Jan Delay. The group has kept the same four members since the start, with Beck writing most of the lyrics and Mighty handling production.

In 1995, their song 'Nüchtern' drew some criticism for its subject matter, but they kept making music. They've released albums steadily since, including '7' in 2007 and 'Mann ist Mann' in 2018.
