The band took its name from Egyptian pharaohs and the political philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli, and was led by frontman Juan Pablo Rodríguez, who went by 'Makia.' Their music mixed rock, hip-hop, and Colombian rhythms, with lyrics that often addressed social and political themes. One of their notable songs, 'La Crucifixion,' dealt with violence against young people.
Despite this, they continued performing and recording through the 1990s and 2000s. Other members included Edgardo González on bass and Juan Carlos Restrepo on drums.
They released several albums, starting with 'La Crucifixión' in 1995 and continuing through records like 'Bajo Tierra,' 'El Primer Golpe,' and 'Faraón' in 2006. Their music found an audience among listeners who connected with its directness and social commentary.
