Farin Urlaub

Farin Urlaub was born in Berlin in 1963. He's best known as the guitarist, vocalist, and primary songwriter for the German punk band Die Ärzte, which formed in 1982. The band built a reputation for irreverent lyrics and raucous live shows. Urlaub's solo work began in the early 2000s with the album 'Am Ende des Tages,' which leaned more toward acoustic and introspective territory than his band's punk material.

His songs like 'Monster' and 'Sonne' show his range, from melodic to visceral. The lyrics often carry sharp wit and personal reflection. In Die Ärzte, he's worked with drummer Bela B and bassist Rod, and outside the band he's collaborated with artists including Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth.

He's also faced legal challenges from the German police union over his lyrics. These incidents reflect the directness in his writing, which has connected with fans for decades.
