John Farnham was born in Dandenong, Victoria in 1949. As a teenager he formed his first band, the Strangers, and by 1975 he'd joined Little River Band as their lead singer. His vocals on songs like 'Reminiscing' and 'Lonesome Loser' helped push the band to international recognition.
After leaving Little River Band in 1982, Farnham's solo career took off with the 1986 album 'Whispering Jack.' That record included 'You're The Voice,' which became something of a global anthem. Other songs like 'Age Of Reason' and 'Always The Same' kept his voice in regular rotation on Australian radio for years.
In 1992 Farnham was diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery, returning later with the album 'Chain Reaction.' He's also been known for speaking his mind on social and political issues, which has sometimes drawn public attention away from the music itself.
