Faróis Acesos

Faróis Acesos formed in Porto in 1998, started by brothers Luís and Vasco Furtado. They spent their early years touring and working through the usual financial strains that come with building a band outside the mainstream. Their debut album, '40.0,' came out in 2006 and put them on the map in Portugal, with the title track becoming a hit. That record drew some criticism for being too inward-looking, which seemed to sharpen their identity rather than soften it.

They followed with albums like 'Três,' 'Luz,' and 'O Mar Encheu-Me a Boca,' each one a step in their own direction. Their sound pulls from folk and rock, sometimes with electronic touches, but it's held together by a kind of quiet, melodic intensity. The lyrics tend toward the poetic, dealing with solitude, longing, and the occasional social observation, all delivered with a certain intimacy that has kept a dedicated audience listening.
