Faron Young was born in Mississippi in 1932 and started playing in local honky-tonks before signing with Capitol Records in 1952. His 1955 hit "Live Fast, Love Hard, Die Young" became a breakthrough, and he followed it with songs like "It's Four In The Morning" and "Baby My Heart." He had a distinctive baritone voice that suited both heartache ballads and more uptempo material.
Young recorded more than 70 albums over his career, and his backing band was called The Country Gentlemen. He worked with other country artists including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard. In 1969, he was involved in a fatal car accident that killed his passenger, an event that stayed with him.
He died in 1996 at age 64. Songs like "Country Girl," "Love Letters," and "According To My Heart" remain part of the country music landscape, performed by other artists who grew up listening to his records.
