Farra da Gordinha formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2002, with Julinho Portela as frontman alongside musicians like percussionist Armandinho Macêdo and bassist Luciano Calazans. Their debut album 'Vem Pro Baile' came out the following year, mixing samba, axé, and funk rhythms that caught on quickly in Brazil.
In 2007, keyboardist and saxophonist Wesley Gordinho died in a car accident, which hit the band hard. They later put out an album called 'Saudade de Wesley' dedicated to him. The group kept going, and in 2010 they released 'Ao Sabor do Vento', whose title track became one of their most recognizable songs.
