Fate Thirteen formed in Bastrop, Texas in 1985 with John Strickland Jr. on vocals, guitarists Keith Cummings and William Riker, bassist Tony Linares, and drummer Raedel Clark. They played a kind of southern metal that drew from thrash and hardcore, and their 1996 album 'No Hope For The Great Southern Trendkill' became their most recognized work. The title track and songs like 'Relentless' and 'Take It Back' showed their aggressive approach.
Their lyrics and sound sometimes drew criticism, and they faced a lawsuit over the cover art for 'No Hope For The Great Southern Trendkill.' They kept recording through lineup changes, putting out six studio albums including 2003's 'Adrenaline Nation.' The core of Strickland, Cummings, Riker, and Linares remained through most of it.
