Fatima

Fatima formed in São Paulo in 1979, an all-women band working in a climate where that was unusual. Their music mixed punk, rock, and experimental electronics, and they wrote directly about social issues from the start.

They kept making records through the 1980s, like 'A Divina Comédia ou Ando Meio Desligado' in 1982 and 'O Grande Medo do Sertão' in 1985. Their lyrics often dealt with poverty, alienation, and violence, which drew both strong support and criticism. The band's core lineup included Clélia Bessa on vocals and percussion, Sonia Abrão on bass, and Magali Mussi on drums.

Fatima returned to a more direct punk sound on the 2007 album 'Cabeça Dinossauro.' Other songs in their catalog, like 'Blue Velvet' and 'Candy Striper,' show their range across different styles and moods. They never really stopped being a band that provoked discussion, whether through their music or their presence as women in Brazilian rock.
