Fátima Santos grew up in Salvador, Bahia, where she heard traditional African and Brazilian music around her. She started singing with influences from Elis Regina and Gilberto Gil. Her first album came out in 2001, called "Vem," and the title track became well-known in Brazil. In 2006, she had surgery on her vocal cords and kept singing afterward. She made other albums like "Caminho" in 2003 and "Raízes" in 2006, and she has worked with Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, and Maria Bethânia.
