Fator Kennedy

Fator Kennedy formed in 1998, a Portuguese band that mixed punk, rock, and hip-hop with Brazilian and African rhythms. Their song "Gritos de Protesto" became something of an anthem for protest movements, with lyrics that tackled inequality and injustice head-on. They drew from influences like Rage Against the Machine, Bob Marley, and Chico Buarque, but their sound was their own, raw and confrontational, meant to unsettle as much as entertain.

Their music often ran into trouble with authorities. One track, "Samba do Extermínio," sparked protests from police officers and led to accusations of censorship. The band defended their right to speak plainly, arguing that music shouldn't be silenced when it points out uncomfortable truths. That tension, between making art and facing backlash, became part of their identity.

The core lineup included João Cavalcanti on vocals, André Shanosky on guitar, Marquinho Cabeção on bass, Rafael Henrique on drums, and Léo Jordan on percussion. They weren't aiming for polish; their work felt urgent, grounded in the struggles they saw around them. Fator Kennedy's music stayed rooted in protest, less about crafting hits than about holding up a mirror to society's flaws.
