Fattern formed in Tromsø in the late 1970s with brothers Dag and Thomas Pettersen and drummer Frode Fivel. Their debut album 'Badekaret Til Pelle' came out in 1981, and the title track became a hit. The song 'Brus Som Gjør Deg Tysk' also appeared in their catalog.
Their lyrics touched on sexuality and social issues, which some listeners found too provocative. The band's second album included the radio staple 'Gutt.' Dag Pettersen had problems with substance abuse during this period.
Fattern broke up in 1984, then reunited for shows in 1999. They put out another album in 2008 called 'Det Er Deg Det Er Deg.' Songs like 'Dance Machine' and 'Hemmelig Ninja' show their range from danceable tracks to more playful material.
