Fauntella Crow was a band formed around lead vocalist and songwriter Sarah McLachlan, with Pierre Marchand on guitar and bass and David Ian on drums. They released their debut album in 1997, followed by records like Sweet Surrender in 2001 and Above the Clouds in 2004. Their song Delicate became particularly well-known, appearing on a 2007 EP of the same name.
In 2003, McLachlan spoke publicly about dealing with depression, which affected the band's work for a time. The Delicate EP stirred some debate when it came out, with lyrics that touched on sexual abuse and trauma. The band kept recording through that period, putting out Pieces of You in 2010 and Hymns for the Broken in 2013.
Their music leaned toward acoustic folk with layered harmonies, and tracks like Give Myself Away and Lost Here carried that introspective, gently arranged sound. They didn't chase trends much, sticking with a style built around McLachlan's voice and straightforward songwriting.
