Fausto Rey was born in the Dominican Republic in 1943. He started playing guitar and singing early, drawing from Dominican rhythms and American pop ballads. In the early 1960s, he formed a band called Los Hijos del Rey and began performing in local clubs.
In 1968, he released "Me Muero Por Estar Contigo," which became his most recognizable song. Its melody and lyrics connected with listeners across Latin America. Other songs like "Que Me Vas a Decir" and "Si No Es Por Amor" also became part of his catalog.
He recorded more than twenty albums, including La Guaracha del Millennium, Corazón Gitano, and Las Canciones que Llegaron al Alma. He worked with other artists like Celia Cruz, Oscar de León, and José Alberto "El Canario." His band included musicians such as Rodolfo "El Lobo" Aguasvivas on guitar, Roberto Liriano on piano, and Juan Luis Guerra.
