Faxu formed in Sweden in 2014, started by Karl-Johan Lindström and Kaisa Andersson. They play Swedish folk music, with Lindström on nyckelharpa and Andersson on violin. The band later included Erik Rydvall on percussion and Anna Ekström on accordion. Their first album was 'Rúnriker' in 2016, followed by 'Vittra' in 2018.
In 2019, they released the song 'Midsommar', which became their most well-known track. It draws on themes from the Swedish Midsummer festival. The band put out another album called 'Veil' in 2021.
In 2021, Faxu faced criticism for using imagery in their promotional materials that some connected to white supremacy. This led to discussions about cultural appropriation and the historical weight of symbols in their work.
