Fear of God formed in Milan in 2000 around guitarist and vocalist Marco Barnett and drummer Davide Bianchi. They were joined by bassist Kevin Falaschi and guitarist Andras Marchiori. Their debut album 'Domine' came out in 2003, followed by 'The Discipline' in 2005.

Their 2008 album 'A Life in Rigorism' gave them their title track and songs like 'All That Remains' and 'Betrayed.' The album drew some criticism for its lyrical themes, which Barnett described as reflecting personal intellectual and spiritual struggles rather than promoting any particular worldview.

They kept releasing albums roughly every few years after that, including 'Revelations in Blood' in 2011, 'Conceived in Fire' in 2014, and 'Desolate Arcane' in 2018. The band toured in Europe and North America.
