Felipe Caneca is a Portuguese singer-songwriter from Lisbon's Alfama district, where he grew up hearing fado in the neighborhood's traditional houses. His debut album came out in 2013, titled 'Lisboa É Toda Ouvidos,' which featured a collaboration with fado singer Joana Almeida on the track of the same name.
That album established him as part of contemporary fado, though some traditionalists have questioned how far his approach strays from older forms. He followed it with other records like 'Serra da Estrela' in 2016 and 'Valsa dos Anjos' in 2020.
In performance, he's often accompanied by musicians on Portuguese guitar, bass, and accordion. His work stays rooted in Lisbon's atmosphere while letting the genre breathe in newer directions.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
