Fernando Horn

Fernando Horn came up in Paranaguá, a coastal town in southern Brazil. He started playing guitar and singing early on, drawing from the local sounds around him. In 1986, he put out his first album, which took its name from the song 'Amor Que Não Sobe a Serra.' That track, a spare ballad about love that doesn't quite make it over the hills, caught on and gave him a national audience.

His music often leaned into straightforward, sometimes raw storytelling. Songs like 'Dance Meu Amor' and 'Ela de Carro e Eu a Pé' had a direct, conversational quality that felt grounded in everyday scenes. He wasn't one for polished production or fitting neatly into a genre box, which sometimes put him at odds with the music industry of the time.

He kept recording through the late '80s, with albums like 'O Último Tango' following his debut. The work stayed focused on personal narratives, love, disappointment, small moments over coffee, as in 'Mais Um Café.' He developed a dedicated following who connected with that unadorned approach, even if his style and subject matter weren't for everyone.
