Fernando Macieira

Fernando Macieira grew up in Rio de Janeiro, where he heard samba and candomblé rhythms from an early age. He formed a band called Rumbora that put out two albums in the late 1990s before he started working on his own.

His solo album 'Apelo Ao Pai de Santo' came out in 2007, and the title track became his most recognizable song. The track references Orixás, spiritual figures from candomblé, and sits alongside other songs like 'Conselho de Amigo' and 'Noite de Ouro' in his catalog.

Some listeners have questioned whether his use of candomblé themes is appropriate, but Macieira has described his music as an expression of his own spiritual background rather than something borrowed for effect.
