Fernando Martins started making music in the early 1990s with a band that took its name from his song "Meu Bem." That track became a hit, giving him his first real break. He grew up in Goiana, Pernambuco, where he heard a lot of frevo and bossa nova around town.
His self-titled album came out in 1999, and he put out another one called O Samba do Grande Amor a few years later. He has kept playing with a band that includes his brother Marcelo on bass, along with Flávio Lira and Fábio Alex. Another song people know is "Sigo Você."
Martins has been outspoken at times, and some of his lyrics have drawn criticism. He hasn't really changed his approach much in response. He still writes and performs, working within that mix of Brazilian rhythms and pop that he started with back in the nineties.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
