Fernando Maurício formed the Portuguese band A Igreja de Santo Estêvão in 1986 with guitarist Henrique Amaro and bassist Pedro Tudela. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1989, and its title track became one of their best-known songs.
They released seven studio albums between 1989 and 2001, including 'Extravagante' in 1990 and 'O Infinito' in 1992. Songs like 'Quando a Severa Morreu (Fado Modesto)' and 'Enigma' show their blend of traditional fado elements with rock. The band toured in Europe and performed at festivals like Glastonbury.
Maurício continued performing under the A Igreja de Santo Estêvão name with various musicians after Amaro and Tudela left. His vocal style and songwriting on tracks such as 'Meu Amor É Nuvem Branca' and 'Boa Noite Solidão' maintained a following in Portugal.
