Fiction Factory formed in Birmingham in the early 1980s, with guitarist Mark Hunter and vocalist Paul Reynolds at the core. They signed with MCA Records in 1984, though their self-titled debut album didn't make much noise at the time.
Things turned around with their second album, 'Everything,' in 1985. The single 'Feels Like Heaven' became a UK chart-topper, driven by its synth-pop hooks and Reynolds' yearning vocals. That song, along with tracks like 'Ghost of Love' and 'All or Nothing,' defined their sound for many listeners.
They kept recording through the decade, putting out albums like 'Out in the World' and 'Throw the Warped Wheel Out.' The band's lineup included bassist Neil Jenkins and drummer Steve Wilson during those years.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
