Fiddlehead formed in 2014 after the end of the hardcore band Have Heart. Mike Hudack sings for the group, which includes Pat Flynn and Alex Henery on guitar, Nick Scalise on bass, and Shawn Costa on drums. They've put out two albums: Springtime and Blind in 2018 and Between the Richness in 2021.
Their songs like Lay Low and Spousal Loss carry some of that hardcore energy but lean into more melodic territory. The writing tends to be personal, dealing with vulnerability and reflection rather than pure aggression. It's not exactly what some Have Heart listeners expected, but the band has kept at it.
Between the Richness felt like a step forward from their debut, a little more settled into what they're doing. They haven't released anything since 2021, but the two records they have out show a band working through where to take that post-hardcore sound when the screaming stops.
