Fidel Cobra formed in Recife in 1982 with José Claudio Gomes on vocals, Davi Axé on guitar, Fernando Carvalho on bass, and Mu Serra on drums. They came out of that city's underground scene, mixing psychedelic rock with punk energy and some Brazilian rhythms.
Their 1984 song "Mistério" became something of an anthem for them, with lyrics that touched on drug use and alienation. The band's stage presence and outspoken nature sometimes drew criticism from more conservative quarters in Brazil at the time.
They put out their self-titled debut album in 1984, and another track from around that period, "Será Que Foi Erro," shows up in their catalog. The music had a raw quality that connected with certain listeners who appreciated that direct approach.
