Field Division formed in Brooklyn in 2011 as a trio: Nicholas Bullen on vocals and guitar, Connor Clemens on keyboards and electronics, and Chris Farrell on drums. Their first album, 'Valley of Bones,' established the atmospheric indie sound they'd keep exploring.
Their 2015 album 'Hollow Body Weather' gave the band its most recognizable track. The song 'Hollow Body Weather' and others like 'Big Sur, Golden Hour' and 'Faultlines' built on that mood with layered arrangements and Bullen's quiet vocals. They followed it with albums called 'Separations' and 'Algorythm.'
Early on, some listeners found their music too subtle for mainstream channels, but they kept working in that space anyway. Their songs tend to avoid big choruses in favor of sustained atmosphere, as you can hear in 'Modest Mountains' or 'To Innisfree Land.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
