Figueirense started playing in Florianópolis in the early 2000s, originally calling themselves Os Garotos da Ilha. The group included Fábio "Babau" Bogas on vocals, Paulo Ricardo on guitar, Ricardo "Ricardinho" Brum on bass, and Leonardo "Léo" Martins on drums. They played local bars and festivals around their coastal city.
Their 2004 debut album "Floripa" had the song "O Canto da Cidade," which became their most recognizable track. They also recorded team anthems like "Hino oficial do Figueirense F.C." and "Figueira, Minha Paixão." Their music mixed Brazilian rhythms with pop and rock elements, drawing from samba and reggae at times.
Some listeners questioned whether their sound was too polished, while others appreciated the blend. They kept playing shows around Florianópolis, building a local following with songs that celebrated their hometown.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
