Filanos started in Crato, Ceará, in the 1990s with Erick Endres on vocals and guitar, Gustavo Oliveira on bass, and Ítalo Ribeiro on drums. They played in local bars and festivals, drawing from sertaneja music. In 2001, their debut album included "Princesa do Sertão," a song about women in the arid sertão region that became widely known.
Their music, including tracks like "Besteira" and "Chovendo," often reflected life in the sertão. They released albums such as "Sertão Verdadeiro" in 2003 and "Filhos da Terra" in 2006, maintaining a focus on regional themes without much fanfare about commercial success or critical debates.
Later albums like "O Som do Sertão" and "A Vida É Boa" continued in a similar vein, with songs like "Bob's Dream" and "Existencialismo" adding to their catalog. The band kept a low profile, letting their music speak for itself rather than chasing trends or dramatic narratives.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
