File is a Brazilian electronica duo from São Paulo formed in the mid-1990s by Rodrigo Campello and Felipe Zenícola. Campello came from industrial music, Zenícola from ambient and techno, and together they built something quieter and more introspective than either of those scenes usually offered. Their first album, 'Idéias Em Um Quarto' from 1996, set the tone with its patient, atmospheric soundscapes.

They've kept at it for decades, putting out records like 'Incidente' in 2000, 'Insônia' in 2004, and 'Café Mondial' in 2012. The music stays in that same thoughtful, experimental electronic lane, built around textures and mood rather than beats or hooks. Their lyrics tend to be philosophical and open-ended, a quality you can hear in songs like 'Seguindo Seus Passos'.

They've played festivals like Sonar in Barcelona and venues like London's Barbican Centre, but they've never really broken through to a mainstream audience. That's fine, their work seems meant for listeners who want something more contemplative than what usually comes out of the electronic world.
