Finsterforst

Finsterforst formed in Bavaria around 2004, with vocalist and guitarist Sandro Wolf and bassist Martin Schindler at the start. They've worked in a space between dark folk and pagan metal, drawing on German history and mythology for their material. Songs like 'Mach Dich Frei!' and 'Nichts Als Asche' show their atmospheric, heavy approach.

Their debut album 'Weltenkraft' came out with a raw sound, followed by records like 'Rastlos' and 'Zerfall' that explored themes of self-discovery and hidden forces. Over time, they've incorporated folk, black metal, and electronic elements into their music, with lyrics that often look inward at the human psyche.

In their early years, Finsterforst faced accusations of promoting neo-Nazi ideologies, which they denied, saying their interest was in history and myth rather than extremism. The band's core lineup has stayed fairly stable, with Sandro Wolf remaining a central creative figure.
