Fireign formed in Toronto in 2012, starting as a trio with Shawn Cooper, Jamie Manuel, and Max Mason. They shared an interest in classic heavy metal but wanted to bring something current to it. In 2015, Manuel left and was replaced by guitarist Ben Keeler and drummer Daniel Nixon.
Their first album, 'Battle At North Point,' came out that same year. It was a concept record about the War of 1812 battle, and the title track stuck as a live favorite. They followed it with 'The Space Between' in 2018 and 'The Flame Within' in 2021.
Some of their other songs, like 'Deadtime' and 'Iron Stake,' show the band's heavier side. Their lyrics have drawn occasional criticism, which they've addressed by saying they aim for catharsis rather than glorification.
