Firesign

Firesign was an American comedy troupe formed in 1966 in Los Angeles, made up of Phil Austin, Peter Bergman, David Ossman, and Phil Proctor. They worked in a surreal, absurdist style that mixed comedy with music and social satire. Their albums from the late 1960s and early 1970s, like 'Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him' and 'Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers,' became cult favorites for their layered wordplay and offbeat humor.

Their music drew from folk, rock, jazz, and psychedelic sounds, often serving as a backdrop for sketches that poked at religion, politics, and the Vietnam War. This approach sometimes drew criticism or censorship from listeners who found their material too subversive. Songs like 'Divine Angel' and 'Heart In Fire' show how they folded musical elements into their comedy without softening the satire.

Firesign kept releasing albums through the 1970s, including 'Everything You Know Is Wrong' in 1974.
