Firm formed in São Paulo in 1983 with André Matos on vocals, Edu Ardanuy on guitar, Claudio Marcio on bass, and Ivan Busic on drums. They played local gigs and released their self-titled debut album in 1985.
That album included 'O Retorno,' a song that became widely popular in Brazil. Its lyrics were sometimes read as criticism of the military regime, which led to some censorship issues for the band.
Firm toured in South America and Europe and recorded several more albums, including Via Láctea in 1987 and Olímpia. Matos left the band at some point to work on solo material.
