Five O'Clock Heroes formed in London in 1999 with Anthony Thistlethwaite on vocals, Andy Lewis on guitar, Glenn Scott on bass, and Craig Radcliffe on drums. Their debut album 'Speak Your Language' came out in 2003, featuring the song 'Anybody Home' that became their most recognizable track.
Their music had a straightforward pop-rock feel with some soul touches, built around Thistlethwaite's clear vocal delivery. Songs like 'Good Lovers' and 'Head Games' followed similar patterns of melodic guitar work and direct lyrics about relationships and everyday situations.
In 2006, Thistlethwaite's throat cancer diagnosis forced the band to cancel a tour and delay recording. He recovered and returned to performing. A few years later, they faced plagiarism claims regarding their song 'Santa Monica,' which were settled out of court.
