Flakes Power formed in São Paulo in 1985 with Leo Jaime on vocals, Fernando Salem on bass, Ricardo Silveira on guitar, and Wilson Sideral on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out the following year, and its track "1 Milhão de Gemas" became something of an anthem for a certain Brazilian audience at the time.
They released several more albums through the early 1990s, including "Maré" in 1987, "Surreal" in 1989, and "Conspiração" in 1991. The band's sound pulled from rock and pop while keeping a connection to Brazilian rhythms, and Jaime's lyrics often touched on social themes. Their work from that period still gets played on classic rock stations in Brazil.
