Flat Top formed in Santos in 1997 with André Pinguim on vocals, Fabio Sousa on guitar, Rodrigo Gonçalves on bass, and Vinicius Romão on drums. Their debut album 'Entre Quatro Paredes' came out the following year, and by 2000's 'Eu Tentei,' they were getting noticed as a Brazilian rock band with a post-grunge feel and lyrics that leaned introspective.
In 2001, they released 'E o Pior (Te Pedindo Desculpas),' a ballad that became a hit. The song's themes drew criticism from some groups who felt it dealt too closely with self-destructive behavior, though the band maintained it was just reflecting real emotions. It's still one of their best-known tracks, alongside 'O Grande Mundo de Pequenas Flores' and 'Outra Vez.'
They kept recording after that, putting out albums like 'Você e Eu' in 2001. The music stayed grounded in that early sound, straightforward rock arrangements with Pinguim's vocals up front, more about mood than flash.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
