Flatbush Zombies came together in 2010 in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. The trio was made up of three friends: Erick Elliott, who goes by The Architect, Meechy Darko, and Zombie Juice. They started putting out music that had a particular psychedelic edge to it, which caught on in underground circles.
Their track 'Palm Trees' became something of a breakout for them, helping to define their sound. It appeared on their 2015 debut studio album, BetterOffDEAD. They followed that with 3001: A Laced Odyssey in 2016, which was built around a loose concept of time travel. Their lyrics often leaned into darker, more introspective territory, which drew some criticism along with a dedicated fanbase.
They kept working as a trio, releasing Vacation in Hell in 2018. Other songs like 'Mood Swings' and 'Smoke Break' show their range, from hazy, atmospheric tracks to more direct rap. They've collaborated with artists like Bun B on 'Reel Girls' and Bridget Perez on '222'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
