Flesh Grinder formed in Porto in 1993. They started putting out independent demos and EPs when their raw sound and graphic lyrics made it hard to find a conventional label. The band's lineup has included vocalist André "Dread" Silva, guitarist Daniel "Dani" Matos, bassist Luís "Maniac" Moreira, and drummer Hugo "Meathead" Almeida.
Their 1999 album "700 Autopsies" drew criticism from animal rights groups for its lyrical content. The band maintained the song was meant as social critique, not glorification. Other tracks like "Act II: Zombie Flesheater" and "Anatomy In Surgery" continued their focus on medical and horror themes.
They released several albums through the late 1990s and early 2000s, including "Defiled" in 1995, "Pathological" in 1997, and "Eroded" in 2001. Their sound stayed rooted in grindcore's aggressive tempos and distorted textures.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
