Floodgates

Floodgates formed in Dayton, Ohio in the late 1990s with John Davis on vocals and guitar, Matt Olivetti on guitar and vocals, Todd Hardesty on bass, and Joel Freeman on drums. They worked as an independent band, releasing their debut album 'Final Prayer' in 1997 and following it with 'Unanswered' in 1999, 'Moving' in 2002, and 'The Discovery' in 2005.

Their music often dealt with personal and sometimes challenging subjects. The song 'A Bride, Not A Building' addressed views of women, and other tracks like 'Apprehension' and 'Decadence' continued in a similar vein of thoughtful, sometimes provocative lyricism. This approach, combined with their choice to remain on independent labels, gave them a particular standing within the alternative rock scene of that period.

John Davis's writing and singing were central to the band's sound. They maintained a steady touring schedule, which helped them build a dedicated audience through their live shows before concluding their active period around the mid-2000s.
