Florão da América formed in São Paulo in 2005 with Vinicius Ruiz on vocals and guitar, Pedro Mamede on bass, and Daniel Jobim on drums. Their debut album, 'Álbum Branco,' came out in 2008 and established them with a mix of indie rock and folk. Songs like 'Algum Outro Lugar' and 'Ela Não Sabe Dançar' became early favorites.
In 2010, the band faced plagiarism accusations when 'Algum Outro Lugar' was said to resemble a Coldplay track. The following year, Ruiz was diagnosed with a rare cancer but kept writing and performing while undergoing treatment. They released their self-titled album in 2011, followed by 'Foi um Verão' in 2014 and 'O Som do Amor' in 2017.
Pedro Mamede left in 2016 to work on other projects, and André Soares joined as the new bassist. Their music often dealt with love, loss, and searching for meaning, heard in tracks like 'Amanhã' and 'Dezembro 2004.'
