FM Attack came together in Sheffield in the early 1980s, pulling from the city's punk scene but leaning into the synth-pop and new wave sounds that were starting to take hold. Their first single, 'Echoes,' came out in 1982 and did well on the UK charts, with Oscar Pearson's vocals giving it a distinct, somewhat haunting feel that caught people's attention.
They put out a couple of albums after that, 'Wild and Free' in 1983 and 'Cabaret' in 1984, which mixed danceable tracks with more experimental material.
